Day #15: Question #3 of the Blog Giveaway....

For those of you who did not know the answer to yesterday's question, it was Arnold
Schwarzenegger! The answer to Monday's question was, Odetta Holmes.

The contest is growing, there are now more names in the hat.

This person was a beautiful trail blazer in her day with songs, like "R-E-S-P-E-C-T" in the 1960's and "Sisters are doing it for themselves" in the 1980's with Annie Lennnox. Who is this diva?

If you know the answer, just place a comment on the bottom of the page and I will add your name to the drawing. The winner will be announced on Saturday.

Day #14: Second Giveaway Question....

Today I am asking the second question for the blog giveaway. We only have one name in the drawing so far, so it's looking good for her to win. If you would like to give her some competition, join in by asking her a question. This question is a little less difficult than the last one.

Here's the question: This man is known for the catch phrase: "I'll be back." He is also governor of California. What is his name?

Post the answer to this question and you will be placed in the drawing for one of my headbands.

Day #12: Silva's Heart...

Today is the last day of the artist feature. We are wrapping it up with Mary Katherine from Silva's heart. I asked her a few questions and here were her responses.

1. What inspires you?
I am inspired by all the beauty around me. Could be a color or a mood, but mostly my husband who challenges me daily giving great ideas. He is far more creative than me! He is his Mothers son!

2. How long how you been an artist?

I guess I have always been an artist in one way or another. In my much younger years, I was a gymnast, loved decorative painting, decorating & gardening. But I have always loved jewelry!

3. If you were stuck on a deserted island, what three things would you need?
great question! Hands down, my husband Gabriele & my 2 dogs Lacie & Tiler. I would even leave the gems behind for them!

4. What is your favorite kind of desert?

fruit-ANY fruit!

5. What is your favorite movie and why?
I have a tie on my favorite movies! Forrest Gump and The Color Purple. What some would call an underdog, I call inspirational!

6. If you could see one dream fulfilled, what would it be?

Having had cancer myself, I would love to see a cure in my lifetime! I hate seeing people suffer from this disease. I may not know the person, but I still cry when I hear of others facing this terrible disease.

7. What words of encouragment do you have for fellow artists?
Do what you love, be authentic to yourself. You deserve it and don't let anyone tell you differently!

8. Where can we find you? Give us your links

I can be found on Etsy @ Silviasheart and on Facebook @ MaryKatherine Mayhew-Valente

1. What inspires you?
I love the classics that never go out of style (pearls, lace, black); vibrant items that fill you with energy; & just enough trendy things to keep you on the lookout for the next big thing. These are the sort of things that inspire me.

2. How long how you been an artist?
I've always loved crafting & can remember having craft days with my friends as early as elementary school.

3. If you were stuck on a deserted island, what three things would you need?
My family; my cell phone (it has my Bible, books, email, music, & tons of games on it!); & my craft supplies.

4. What is your favorite kind of desert?
I'm not really big on sweets, but I do like Christmas fudge.

5. What is your favorite movie and why?
I can't pick just one, but it's probably a toss up between "Dave" & the "Harry Potter" series.

6. If you could see one dream fulfilled, what would it be?
I'd love to encourage other Christians to share their faith through their shops.

Day #10: Tie Dye By Sara

Today I am featuring another wonderful artist: Sara, from Tie Dye by Sara. I asked her a few questions, so that we can get to know her a little bit better. Here's what she said:

1. If you were to pick one thing that inspired you, what would it be?
My kids inspire me the most. The first shirts I tie dyed were for them. Their faith in me is amazing.
The youngest one is 7 and he knows that if it's 100% cotton, I can dye it. So, he finds stuff at the store and says "Mom, I like this. Can you tie Dye it for me, please?" He likes the item, but thinks it would be so much cooler if I "fix" it.
My oldest is 13 and is great for when I feel like I'm in over my head. He is very adept at reminding me that not everyone likes my stuff, but that doesn't mean I've failed.

2. What is your favorite kind of ice cream?
Umpqua Dairy's Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

3. What are your favorite mediums to work in?
I use Procion MX fiber reactive dye, so I work with 100% cotton and occasionally rayon.

4. How long have you been an artist?
I've been doing tie dye since March of 2007, so a little over three years.

5. If you could go one place in the world, where would you go and why?
I would definitely go to Ireland! Ninety-eight percent of my ancestry is either German or Irish. I guess you could say Ireland calls to me.

6. What is your favorite quote and why?

"It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you are not." Andre Gide French critic, essayist, & novelist (1869 - 1951)

"You've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything" ~Ginger Rogers [1978]

7. What is one word of inspiration you could give to another artist?
It's a bit more than one word. "Get out of your own way."
I've had several "experiments" that didn't turn out how I wanted, especially in the beginning. In tie dye it's all 'experiments." Yet, when I quit letting my fear of failure run my 'experiments' and decided to let the customers decide; those were some of my most popular pieces. That left me to try and figure out how to make that "mistake" again.

Thanks to Sara for taking a moment to share a little bit of herself with us. She can not be reached until Monday because she is a part of a craft festival.

Day # 9: Artist William Rockwell....

Today I am featuring William W. Rockwell and his marvelous unique etsy shop.
1. What inspires you?
A lot of things. Mainly love, when I am in love inspiration flows through me like an underground water current. Nature, if I am in a creative block, I will go for a walk, sit and watch the colorado sunset, feel the air touch my skin and the sun on my face. Other art, mainly old art, the greats.

2. How long how you been an artist?
.I have been an artist since I was strong enough to hold a pencil, just before 2 years old. My mom was always teaching us new things.

3. If you were stuck on a deserted island, what three things would you need?
Sketch book, pencils, and water

4. What is your favorite kind of desert?
I love cheesecake, it is truly a weakness of mine.

5. What is your favorite movie and why?

My new favorite movie is Avatar. Have you seen the colors! Amazing, I would give anything to see a place like that in person, too beautiful for words.

6. If you could see one dream fulfilled, what would it be?

The ability to have such a large following I am selling more than I can make. To have and run an animation business equal to that of Pixar or Dreamworks. I have always wanted to be well known, and have enough to one day support a family completely with no stressed hard times.

7. What words of encouragment do you have for fellow artists?

NEVER give up. I know you hear that a lot I am sure, but really, don't. I stuck it out with zero income for the last three months and my dreams are beginning to come true, as I am now a creative director for a company halfway around the world, a dream I have had for years. I just kept my head down, worked and worked until I got it. Keep positive, stay focused, and NEVER give up.
